Methanol

Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol, is a chemical with the formula CH3OH. It is the simplest alcohol, consisting of a methyl group linked to a hydroxyl group. Methanol is a light, volatile, colourless, flammable liquid with a distinctive odour similar to that of ethanol (drinking alcohol). Today, methanol is mainly produced industrially by hydrogenation of carbon monoxide.

Applications

Methyl Alcohol is a colourless fairly volatile liquid that is used as a solvent and as an intermediate in chemical synthesis. It is also used as fuel, antifreeze agent, and as a denaturant for ethanol.
